The #1 thing we are told by parents who come to us for a consultation is: I wish I knew about you sooner.
Parents are often quick to point blame at themselves for the time that was lost while a child was languishing in an inappropriate setting or without appropriate supports. But there is still time. There is almost ALWAYS time. Time to make- up for the district’s past failures and to right the many wrongs.
There are a number of things we can do if you feel the district has failed your child. Here is a quick guide to getting started.
Compensatory Services
One of the most beneficial things we fight for at GDPC is compensatory or make-up services -- hours of academic instruction or specific therapies to attempt to make-up for a district's failure to provide that instruction or those therapies.
That could mean: OT was supposed to be delivered 2x/week and sessions were missed and not made up so you want hour for hour replacements.
.. OR..
It could mean that inappropriate programming or services were offered over a period of YEARS and you want to put your child back in the position they would have been in but for the district's shortcomings.
This can be done. And it is often done using PRIVATE providers.
Get Started Now
We regularly get districts to pay for a bank of service hours, to be utilized by parents at their discretion and on their timeline, in addition to what is offered on the child’s IEP going forward.
In fact, if you take a look at just some of our success stories listed on our website, you’ll see that we've gotten thousands and thousands of dollars worth of services for our kids. This number continues to grow every day.
